Portobello Mushroom Burgers in 6 Steps

As a former vegetarian, I have a strong fondness for mushrooms. They are extremely delicious, and have a beautiful texture. Portobello mushrooms are considered the steaks of the vegetarian world. These burgers are a good alternative to beef or chicken burgers. They are very easy and quick to cook at home.

Ingredients:
3 Portobello mushrooms
1/4 cup of balsamic vinegar
1/8 cup of olive oil
1/4 teaspoon of chili flakes
1/4 teaspoon of paprika
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of dried oregano
3 buns (using Trader Joe's whole wheat buns)
Toppings
1 sliced tomato
Half an onion caramelized
3 slices of cheese (using Muenster cheese from Trader Joe's)
Mayonnaise
2 jalapeno (sliced, seed and membrane removed)

Step 1: Peel the portobello mushrooms.

Step 2: Using a knife, score the mushrooms. This allows for even cooking, and allows for the mushrooms to absorb all the delicious flavors of the marinade.

Step 3: In a shallow dish, mix in balsamic vinegar, olive oil, chili flakes, paprika, salt, and oregano.

Step 4: Rub the marinade all over the mushrooms. Pouring the marinade in the slits that you created. Leave the mushrooms to marinate for 30 minutes.

Step 5: In the meantime get all of your toppings ready. I am using, mayonnaise, munster cheese, caramelized onions, tomatoes, and jalapeno. You can use avocados or guacamole.

Step 6: In the meantime, heat up your grill, or frying pan. Cook the mushrooms for 5 minutes on each side, on medium-high heat. Use the remaining marinade for basting. Top with cheese during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Serve with fresh veggies.
